CHAMPIONING IN SPECIALIST BEHAVIOUR SUPPORT
Frequently Asked Questions
Answers to the questions we hear most - if you can't find what you're looking for, get in touch and we'll help.
Getting Started
Are you a registered NDIS provider?
Yes. New Dawn Therapy is a registered NDIS provider with the NDIS Quality and Safeguards Commission, approved to deliver Behaviour Support and Therapeutic Supports.
Can I use my NDIS funding with you if I'm self-managed or plan-managed?
Yes - we work with participants who are self-managed, plan-managed, or agency-managed.
Do I need a referral to access your services?
Not always. Some supports can be accessed directly with an NDIS plan; others may need a referral from your support coordinator, GP, or another allied health professional. If you're not sure, get in touch and we'll help you work it out.
What happens at my first session?
Your first session is about getting to know you, your goals, your history, and what support looks like for you. There's no pressure, and you're welcome to bring a support person or family member along. We'll talk through your NDIS plan, your needs, and answer any questions before support begins.
Our Services
What's the difference between Positive Behaviour Support and psychotherapy/counselling?
Positive Behaviour Support focuses on understanding the function of a behaviour and improving quality of life and environment. Psychotherapy and counselling focus more on emotional processing, self-understanding, and mental health recovery. Many participants benefit from both, and we can help you figure out what fits.
Do you offer clinical supervision for behaviour support practitioners?
Yes. We provide supervision for practitioners at Core, Proficient, Advanced, and Specialist levels, aligned with the NDIS Practice Standards and PBS Capability Framework.
What happens after a Functional Behaviour Assessment?
We develop an interim and then comprehensive Behaviour Support Plan, tailored to the individual, along with training for the people who support them day-to-day (family, support workers, teachers).
Do you provide resources I can use at home?
Yes. Alongside your sessions, we provide take-home practice materials and strategies, so progress continues between appointments — not just during them.
Practical Details
What ages do you support?
We support participants of all ages across most of our services. Our Therapeutic Supports service is specifically for participants aged 7 and up.
Do you offer telehealth?
Yes. We offer telehealth appointments alongside in-person support at home, in the community, or at school — so you can choose whatever works best for you.
What areas do you service?
We're based on the Gold Coast and also service Tweed Heads, Lismore, Ballina, Brisbane, and Townsville. We come to you — at home, in the community, or at school.
How long is the wait to get started?
Contact us for current availability.
Will I see the same practitioner each time?
Yes, wherever possible we aim for consistency, so you build a trusted relationship with your practitioner over time.
What if I need to cancel or reschedule?
We understand plans change. We ask for at least 24 hours' notice where possible, so we can offer that time to someone else.
Feedback & Support
What if I have a concern or want to give feedback?
We welcome feedback at any time, and it will never affect the quality of support you receive. Visit our Feedback & Complaints page to share a compliment, suggestion, or concern — or contact the NDIS Commission directly on 1800 035 544.
